Johannesburg, Nov 22, 2025: The G20 Leaders’ Summit 2025 launched on Friday in South Africa, marking a historic first for the continent. The overarching theme this year is “Solidarity, Equality and Sustainability”, aimed at fostering worldwide cooperation on crucial issues.
Key topics include enhancing disaster resilience, promoting debt sustainability for low-income nations, financing an equitable energy transition, and driving inclusive growth via essential minerals. Leaders are also set to tackle economic, environmental, and social hurdles faced globally.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Johannesburg on Nov 21 for the summit. On Saturday, he engaged in a bilateral discussion with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, who welcomed PM Modi with a traditional “Namaste,” symbolizing the strong diplomatic relationship between the two countries. Their meeting will cover global and regional priorities during the summit.
Throughout India’s G20 Presidency from December 2022 to November 2023, over 200 meetings were conducted across 60 locations, involving all 28 States and 8 Union Territories. This presidency marked an unprecedented level of engagement, attracting over 100,000 participants, including 30,000 delegates from 135 nations. Under PM Modi’s guidance, the African Union was welcomed as a permanent member, reflecting India’s commitment to inclusivity in the forum.
At the summit, PM Modi is poised to convey India’s outlook on global matters, underscoring the necessity for inclusive and sustainable economic strategies that ensure no one is left behind. He will also participate in several bilateral discussions with international leaders to enhance cooperation on trade, climate strategies, and economic growth.
The initial session will cover strategies for inclusive prosperity and sustainable development, while later discussions will delve into climate change, energy transitions, financial stability, and global health readiness.
The G20 Leaders’ Summit 2025 in South Africa serves as a vital platform for nations to collaborate, exchange insights, and fortify global alliances, with PM Modi championing India’s vision for a fairer and more sustainable world.
