Jordan Secures 2-1 Victory Against UAE, Leading Group C in FIFA Arab Cup 2025

Jordan Secures 2-1 Victory Against UAE, Leading Group C in FIFA Arab Cup 2025

Post by : Maya Rahman

Jordan kicked off their journey in the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025 with an exhilarating 2-1 win over the United Arab Emirates at Al Bayt Stadium. This victory places Jordan at the forefront of Group C, granting them an early lead in the tournament. The match was filled with thrilling episodes, crucial penalties, and standout performances that set a high standard for the group stage.

The breakthrough came in the 20th minute when Ali Olwan converted a penalty, awarded after UAE’s Khalid Al Dhahnahi fouled Yazan Al Naimat in the box. This goal energized Jordan, providing them with a morale boost. The first half saw Jordan assert their dominance, generating multiple opportunities while applying pressure on the UAE. Just before the halftime whistle, UAE goalkeeper Hamad Al Maqbali made a stunning save from another penalty that could have extended Jordan’s lead.

Despite facing a numerical disadvantage in the second half, the UAE displayed remarkable resolve, equalizing shortly after the break. Bruno Oliveira’s precise cross from Luan Pereira found the net in the 48th minute, briefly uplifting UAE's spirits and hinting at a possible comeback. Yet, Jordan quickly regained control to retake the lead.

Jordan’s second goal came just after the hour mark, with Yazan Al Naimat finishing a move initiated by Nizar Al Rashdan. A VAR check confirmed the goal, restoring Jordan’s lead to 2-1. Following this, Jordan continued to create chances but failed to increase their advantage, while the UAE fought hard in the dying moments but could not equalize, suffering a narrow defeat.

This outcome keeps Jordan perched at the top of Group C, two points ahead of Egypt and Kuwait, who played to a 1-1 draw earlier. The UAE remains at the bottom without a point to their name. Jordan’s ability to capitalize on critical moments and their efficient use of penalties and swift counterattacks was on display in this match.

This win marks a vital beginning for Jordan in the FIFA Arab Cup, demonstrating their capacity to perform under pressure against formidable local rivals. The team will focus on maintaining their lead and gaining momentum as the group stage unfolds. Conversely, for the UAE, this match served as a valuable lesson, revealing areas for defensive improvement and better converting scoring chances.

Fans witnessed a captivating contest brimming with drama, skill, and fierce competition. Jordan’s strategic approach and standout individual efforts were key in clinching the victory. With this result, Jordan sends a strong message in Group C about their intentions to advance deeper into the tournament. The upcoming group matches will be critical as all teams vie for a spot in the knockout rounds.
