Los Angeles: The music world is mourning the loss of Cleto Escobedo III, renowned bandleader for Jimmy Kimmel Live! and close friend of the late-night host, who has died at age 59. This devastating news was shared by Jimmy Kimmel, who took to social media to express his sorrow and remember Escobedo as a true "great friend, father, and musician."
Kimmel shared a poignant tribute on Instagram, featuring a photo of Cleto alongside a heartfelt message. "This morning, we lost not just a bandleader but a beloved friend, father, son, musician, and man — my dear friend Cleto Escobedo III. Saying we are heartbroken feels insufficient," Kimmel wrote.
He delved into the depth of their long-standing friendship, saying, "Cleto and I have been joined at the hip since I was just nine years old. To have the chance to work together every day was a dream we never believed would materialize. Always cherish your friends, and please keep Cleto’s family in your thoughts and prayers."
While details surrounding his passing remain private, Kimmel’s heartfelt note has sparked waves of support and condolences from both fans and fellow celebrities within the entertainment industry.
Paula Abdul, singer and dancer, also acknowledged Escobedo, reflecting on their early collaborations. "Today, my heart feels heavy as we say farewell to the amazing Cleto Escobedo III. I first crossed paths with Cleto when he played sax at a quaint bar in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. His undeniable talent and vibrant spirit resonated deeply," she shared, emphasizing that bringing him onto her first world tour was a pivotal decision.
Originally from Las Vegas, Escobedo and Kimmel grew up together, and their friendship blossomed into a professional partnership when Kimmel initiated Jimmy Kimmel Live! in 2003, with Cleto leading the show's band, Cleto and the Cletones.
Escobedo, celebrated for his infectious energy and musical prowess across various saxophones, contributed to the show’s unique charm.
His passing coincides with reports of a "personal matter" that caused the postponement of the November 6 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live!
As tributes flow in, fans will fondly remember Cleto Escobedo III as not just a gifted musician but also a remarkable friend and a creative spirit who brought joy to countless lives through music and television.
