Jelly Roll has debuted a fresh look, shaving off his beard for the first time in nearly a decade. Known for his signature facial hair, he playfully likened his new appearance to a “Ninja Turtle” in a recent video. He reflected on how his beard was a way to hide his insecurities about his weight, stating it felt preferable to cover his face rather than face the reality of his heaviest days.
This transformation coincides with a pivotal time in his career. While on tour in Australia, Jelly Roll learned he had garnered three Grammy nominations, including for best contemporary country album and best country duo/group performance. Expressing his astonishment, he shared that he once thought his Grammy attendance would be a singular event, never anticipating multiple nominations. He emphasized the significance of this recognition, capturing the childhood dream of delivering a Grammy speech.
Reactions to his new look have varied, with one memorable response coming from his daughter Bailee Ann. In his vlog, she humorously reacted, saying she might cry because the clean-shaven appearance reminded her of a turtle. Her genuine surprise reflects the mixed feelings many fans have experienced as they adjusted to his new look.
The shave also marks a key milestone in Jelly Roll's ongoing weight-loss journey. Over the past three years, he has shed more than 200 pounds and frequently updates followers about his progress, challenges, and aspirations. His wife, Bunnie Xo, hinted that he intended to shave entirely to reveal his newly sculpted jawline. Jelly Roll mentioned that he may pursue skin-removal surgery or even a facelift in his ongoing transformation.
Before landing on the final clean-shaven look, he experimented with various styles, such as a goatee and mustache, both praised by Bunnie. She humorously declared the fully shaved look as “not terrible,” embracing the lightheartedness of the change.
In a recent chat, Jelly Roll opened up about his lifelong battle with obesity, revealing he was over 300 pounds by middle school and ultimately reached around 550 pounds. He clarified that his current aim is to simply become healthier, not necessarily build muscle. He aspires to weigh under 300 pounds before his participation in SummerSlam 2025, where he'll compete in a tag-team match.
