A 5.7-magnitude earthquake struck near Indonesia’s Java Island on Tuesday, and people in nearby areas felt light shaking. The earthquake started deep underground, about 138 kilometers (85.7 miles) below the Earth’s surface. Because it happened at such a great depth, its effect on the surface was limited.
There were no immediate reports of injuries, deaths, or damage to buildings. Local officials and disaster management teams are keeping a close watch on the situation to make sure people remain safe.
Indonesia is part of the Pacific Ring of Fire, an area known for frequent earthquakes and volcanic activity. Because of this, earthquakes are common in the country. Authorities confirmed that no tsunami warning or emergency alert was issued after this event.
Experts are still checking the area to see if there could be aftershocks or any delayed effects. People living in nearby regions have been advised to stay calm, remain alert, and follow basic safety instructions if needed.
