Iran Heritage Sites Damaged In War Strikes

Iran Heritage Sites Damaged In War Strikes

Post by : Shakul

Recent military strikes linked to the ongoing conflict involving United States and Israel have reportedly caused damage to several historic monuments in Iran. Although the sites were not directly targeted by missiles, powerful shockwaves and falling debris damaged parts of the historic structures.

Damage To Golestan Palace In Tehran

One of the most affected sites is the famous Golestan Palace located in Tehran.

The palace, known for its intricate Qajar-era architecture and mirror-decorated halls, suffered broken archways, shattered windows, and damaged glass ceilings due to nearby explosions.

Historic Sites Hit In Isfahan

Officials also confirmed damage to major heritage landmarks in Isfahan.

These include the historic Chehel Sotoun Palace and the ancient Masjed-e Jame of Isfahan, both considered important symbols of Persian architecture and history.

Archaeological Area Also Affected

Reports indicate damage to buildings near the Khorramabad Valley.

This valley contains prehistoric caves and archaeological sites showing evidence of human habitation dating back nearly 63,000 years.

UNESCO Raises Concern

The cultural body UNESCO confirmed the damage and expressed concern about the safety of heritage sites during modern warfare.

Officials stated that coordinates of important cultural landmarks had already been shared with military forces to prevent accidental destruction.

Iran Condemns The Damage

Iranian officials strongly criticised the destruction of cultural landmarks.

Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi accused Israel of targeting Iran’s historical heritage during the conflict.

UN Warns About Cultural Loss

According to Stephane Dujarric, modern conflicts increasingly threaten civilians and irreplaceable cultural monuments. He warned that priceless heritage sites across the region remain at risk if the conflict continues.
