Quentin Tarantino has stirred conversations with his recent remarks about Paul Dano. On a well-known podcast, the director of Kill Bill reflected on the 2007 film There Will Be Blood, expressing that Dano's acting detracted from the movie's main dynamics. He referred to Dano as "weak sauce" and stated that the collaboration with Daniel Day-Lewis fell short of what a true partnership should be, labeling him as the "weakest ... actor in SAG."
These comments quickly attracted a wave of reactions from fellow professionals within the industry. Matt Reeves, who directed Dano in The Batman (2022), praised him as "an incredible actor and an incredible person," commending the depth he brought to his character alongside Robert Pattinson.
Screenwriter Mattson Tomlin, contributing to the Batman sequel, emphasized Dano's prowess as both an actor and a director, referring to his directorial debut Wildlife as evidence of his capability and empathy. Meanwhile, Ben Stiller tweeted that Dano is "f-ing brilliant," and Alec Baldwin shared a video praising the actor.
This exchange has reignited the discourse surrounding There Will Be Blood, which was once renowned for Day-Lewis's performance and Paul Thomas Anderson's direction. However, the spotlight now shines on Dano's contributions and the robust backing he has received from his peers, highlighting his esteemed status in Hollywood despite Tarantino's critique.
