Indonesia Detains Foreigners in Work Permit Crack

Indonesia Detains Foreigners in Work Permit Crack

Post by : Shakul

Authorities in Indonesia have intensified enforcement operations in the Riau Islands, detaining several foreign nationals for allegedly working without proper permits in Batam’s industrial and construction sectors.

According to officials from the Batam Immigration Office, a total of six foreigners, including five Chinese nationals and one Malaysian, were detained during operations conducted between March and April 10 as part of stricter monitoring efforts.

The crackdown focused on foreign workers suspected of misusing their stay permits by engaging in employment activities that are not allowed under their visa categories.

Initial findings revealed that two Chinese nationals were discovered working in an industrial estate despite holding only limited stay permits, which do not authorize employment.

Further inspections in early April led to the detention of three additional Chinese nationals at a construction site, where they were allegedly performing technical work while holding B211 visit visas, which are typically meant for business visits and not for employment.

In a separate action, immigration authorities in Ranai deported two Malaysian nationals who were found working in ship repair activities without valid work permits.

Officials stated that the enforcement measures are part of ongoing efforts to ensure compliance with immigration laws and to prevent misuse of visa regulations in key economic zones.

The authorities also emphasized their commitment to continuing strict supervision of foreign workers to protect local labor regulations and maintain legal standards in employment practices.
