Two Indian men were reportedly attacked in a racially motivated assault in Ashkelon, Israel, on Tuesday. CCTV footage shows the victims being followed and beaten by a group of hooded individuals in a public park. The attackers had reportedly planned the assault in advance using WhatsApp.
The incident comes shortly after India joined over 100 United Nations member states in condemning Israel’s expansion in the West Bank. Israeli media described the attack as premeditated and fueled by racism and malice.
Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera urged India’s External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to verify the condition of the victims and take urgent action. The statement from India strongly condemned unilateral Israeli measures, calling them contrary to international law and demanding their reversal.
The attack occurs ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Israel on February 25 to strengthen strategic ties. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu emphasized the significance of Modi’s visit in global diplomacy during a recent televised address.
Officials clarified that the victims were targeted solely because of their nationality and stressed the importance of ensuring their safety while investigations continue.
