India strongly criticized Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, rejecting Islamabad's "false" claims about Operation Sindoor and condemning its use of terrorism as a state policy tool. India’s Permanent Representative, Parvathaneni Harish, accused Pakistan’s envoy of presenting a misleading and self-serving version of the events from May last year.
Harish highlighted that Pakistan-backed terrorists brutally killed 26 innocent civilians in Pahalagam in April 2025. He reminded the council that this body had called for the perpetrators, organizers, financiers, and sponsors of this attack to be held accountable. India’s response, he said, was measured, responsible, and focused on dismantling terrorist infrastructure without escalating the conflict.
He further revealed that until May 9, Pakistan continued to threaten attacks on India, but on May 10, the Pakistani military directly contacted the Indian military, requesting a halt to fighting. Harish challenged Pakistan’s claims of victory by pointing to public evidence of damage caused to multiple Pakistani air bases during India’s operation, including destroyed runways and burnt hangars.
On the issue of terrorism, Harish sharply rebuked Pakistan’s attempt to normalize terrorism in the region, saying, “Terrorism can never be accepted as the new normal.” He accused Pakistan, an elected UN Security Council member, of pursuing a one-sided agenda aimed solely at harming India and its people.
Harish reaffirmed India’s firm stance on Jammu and Kashmir, emphasizing that the Union territory remains an integral and inalienable part of India and that Pakistan has no right to interfere in India's internal matters.
Regarding the Indus Waters Treaty, Harish explained India’s decision to suspend the pact, noting that although India signed it 65 years ago in good faith, Pakistan repeatedly violated the treaty’s spirit by engaging in wars and sponsoring terror attacks. India’s move to hold the treaty in abeyance is contingent upon Pakistan ending its cross-border terrorism permanently.
He concluded by advising Pakistan to uphold the rule of law, pointing out the country’s constitutional issues, including the controversial 27th Amendment granting lifetime immunity to its chief of defense forces.
India’s strong statements at the UN Security Council underline its commitment to combating terrorism and safeguarding national security, while firmly rejecting Pakistan’s attempts to distort facts and interfere in India’s internal affairs.
