London: Heathrow Airport has officially lifted the longstanding 100ml limit on liquids in hand luggage, now permitting passengers to carry containers of up to two litres through security. This update follows the comprehensive installation of advanced CT scanners across all terminals, as reported.
Travelers benefit from the new scanning technology, as they no longer have to remove liquids or electronic devices like laptops from their bags, and the need for clear plastic bags is eliminated. With this change, Heathrow claims the title of the world’s largest airport to fully implement such innovative screening solutions.
This new liquid rule specifically applies to flights departing from Heathrow, thus passengers should confirm the security regulations at their respective return airports, which may still adhere to the previous restrictions.
Heathrow’s CEO, Thomas Woldbye, stated that the £1 billion enhancement aims to expedite security checks and simplify the travel experience, allowing passengers to spend less time preparing for security processes.
In addition, several other airports across the UK, such as Gatwick, Edinburgh, and Birmingham, have expanded their liquid allowances, although some are pending governmental approval.
Last year, Dubai International Airport (DXB) also adopted similar measures, employing advanced scanners to help reduce wait times and enhance the passenger experience.
