In a remarkable feat, 11-year-old British go-karting star Harry Williams is now the youngest driver ever to join McLaren’s Formula 1 Young Driver Development Programme. This milestone underscores McLaren’s ongoing commitment to scouting and nurturing emerging racing talents from an early age.
Following him in the programme is Ella Hakkinen, daughter of the renowned two-time Formula 1 world champion Mika Hakkinen, who entered the programme last year at the age of 14.
The McLaren Young Driver Programme boasts a rich history of cultivating elite talent, including the likes of seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who was just 13 when he joined in 1998, as well as current titleholder Lando Norris.
Alessandro Alunni Bravi, McLaren's Chief Commercial Officer, mentioned that the organization is dedicated to fostering a defined pathway for young drivers. This initiative aims to facilitate their advancement into high-profile racing series such as Formula 1, IndyCar, and the World Endurance Championship in the future.
Harry Williams’ entry as a promising young karting talent signifies McLaren’s pledge to invest in the stars of tomorrow in racing.
