Gotham Awards 2025: A Night of Glamour and Surprises in New York

Post by : Badri Ariffin

New York sparkled on Monday as the 35th edition of the Gotham Awards kicked off the film awards season with flair, elegance, and surprising wins. Hosted at Cipriani Wall Street, the event was renowned for its relaxed yet glitzy ambiance, where diverse fashion and remarkable talent shone brightly.

Leading Winners Take Center Stage

Paul Thomas Anderson’s highly-anticipated “One Battle After Another” entered the night with an impressive six nominations—the highest ever at the Gothams. Nonetheless, it secured only one victory, for Best Feature, highlighting the stiff competition. Internationally, Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi emerged as a highlight, winning three major awards for “It Was Just an Accident,” including Best International Feature, Original Screenplay, and Best Director—solidifying his reputation as the evening's standout creator.

Red Carpet Style Captivates

While awards took the spotlight, the red carpet also delivered its share of excitement. Rihanna turned heads in a sleek Balenciaga outfit, complemented by A$AP Rocky in Chanel. Jacob Elordi's blend of casual and tailored looks, Jennifer Lawrence in timeless Dior, Naomi Watts in elegant Calvin Klein, and Michael B. Jordan in his signature sharp attire attracted the limelight. Stars like Jeremy Allen White, Alexander Skarsgård, Amanda Seyfried, and Benicio Del Toro opted for understated yet impactful styles.

Elle Fanning’s chic Ralph Lauren gown, alongside Andrew Scott, Hugh Jackman, Oscar Isaac, and Ethan Hawke, contributed to the stellar lineup. Jackie and Adam Sandler made a memorable joint appearance, while Kate Hudson, Alec Baldwin, and Paul Rudd rounded out the night’s star-studded arrivals.

A Casual Ceremony with Significant Impact

Despite its reputation as a “low-key” event, the Gotham Awards are known for influencing the trajectory of the awards season. Anderson’s well-deserved win and Panahi’s trifecta of awards may set the tone for upcoming festivals and guild nominations. The blend of standout fashion and surprising winners ensures that even a laid-back ceremony can provide remarkable moments that resonate.
