Google Eyes Up to $40B Investment in Anthropic to Boost AI Efforts

Google Eyes Up to $40B Investment in Anthropic to Boost AI Efforts

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a bold move, Google is contemplating an investment of as much as $40 billion in Anthropic, further solidifying their partnership in the field of artificial intelligence. This deal will begin with an upfront $10 billion investment, while an additional $30 billion is contingent on specific performance goals.

Through this collaboration, Anthropic will leverage Google’s custom AI chips and cloud services to propel its technological advancements.

This announcement follows closely on the heels of Amazon's own expansion plans with Anthropic, involving an initial $5 billion commitment and an additional $20 billion based on performance conditions. Furthermore, Anthropic has pledged to invest over $100 billion in Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the next ten years.

The artificial intelligence landscape is rapidly evolving, with fierce battles for advantage as companies pour billions into tech infrastructure. Notably, Anthropic has just reported an annual revenue exceeding $30 billion, overtaking OpenAI for the first time in market standings.

Dario Amodei, the CEO of Anthropic, recently visited the White House for talks following previous tensions regarding military access to the company’s AI technologies.

Earlier this month, Anthropic launched its advanced AI model named Mythos, although its release is tightly controlled due to cybersecurity concerns. Currently, only 40 significant tech firms have access to Mythos to facilitate security assessments for potential vulnerabilities.

In conjunction with this, Anthropic is investigating reports of unauthorized access to the Mythos system, as it fears hackers might exploit any weaknesses if not adequately protected.
