Dubai: The All India Football Federation (AIFF) has proudly revealed that five Indian match officials are now part of the FIFA International List of Match Officials for 2026. This accolade reflects India’s expanding footprint in international football.
Among the inducted officials, Rachana Kamani from Gujarat has made history as a female referee, marking a pivotal moment for women's representation in the sport. Additionally, male referees Ashwin Kumar from Puducherry and Aditya Purkayastha from Delhi have achieved a significant career milestone with their inclusion.
Also selected as assistant referees are Muralitharan Pandurangan and Peter Christopher, further underscoring the comprehensive capabilities of Indian officials. Notably, both Ashwin Kumar and Aditya Purkayastha have completed the prestigious AFC Referee Academy course in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, known for its rigorous training for elite officials. Rachana Kamani is currently advancing through this demanding program.
With these new selections, India now has a total of 19 match officials acknowledged on FIFA’s International List for 2026, highlighting the country's dedication to developing world-class refereeing talent.
2026 FIFA World Cup Draw Insights
The draw for the highly anticipated 2026 FIFA World Cup took place at the John F. Kennedy Center, marking the beginning of preparations for the tournament’s inaugural 48-team format. Jointly hosted by Canada, Mexico, and the United States, this edition guarantees an exciting array of matches and thrilling group-stage pairings.
In Group C, Morocco, Brazil, Scotland, and Haiti will compete, with Morocco recently showing strong performance.
Group L features a matchup between England and Croatia, while Ghana and Panama aim for progression.
Group B is set to include Italy, Canada, Qatar, and Switzerland, depending on playoff outcomes, making it a thrilling battle.
The tournament opener will see host Mexico face off against South Africa, with Group A also featuring South Korea and a playoff victor among Denmark, North Macedonia, the Czech Republic, and Ireland.
