Manama: Bahrain’s Public Prosecution has recently mandated the pretrial detention of multiple suspects allegedly connected to an espionage operation associated with Iranian intelligence and the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).
An official announcement revealed that intelligence services unveiled the case following a thorough examination into the activities and foreign relationships of the accused individuals. They were apprehended on suspicions of engaging with external agents.
The Head of the Terror Crimes Prosecution indicated that the suspects had been tasked with surveilling sensitive and strategic areas throughout the Kingdom. Their role allegedly involved gathering crucial intelligence possibly aimed at orchestrating future assaults.
Furthermore, officials asserted that the suspects were instructed to capture and document the aftermath of hostile events, implying a systematic approach to evaluate and convey operational impacts.
The Public Prosecution has begun a comprehensive inquiry and has interrogated those detained. A judicial directive has been issued to maintain their custody while investigations continue to reveal further elements of the purported network.
Authorities have stressed that inquiries are still ongoing, with a strong emphasis on safeguarding national security and identifying any additional participants in the operation.
