Erik Fleming, the individual responsible for providing ketamine to the late Hollywood star Matthew Perry before his untimely death, has been sentenced to two years in prison by a US court.
On Wednesday, Fleming was sentenced after admitting his guilt in August 2024 to charges of conspiracy to distribute ketamine and distribution causing death. Prosecutors revealed that he delivered ketamine vials to Kenneth Iwamasa, Perry's personal assistant, who subsequently administered the lethal dose.
Judge Sherilyn Garnett also mandated that Fleming serve an additional three years of supervised probation once his prison term concludes, according to the Justice Department.
Medical authorities determined that Perry's death in October 2023 was primarily due to the acute effects of ketamine, compounded by additional factors. He tragically lost consciousness and drowned in his hot tub at the age of 54.
Perry was best known for his role as Chandler Bing on the iconic series Friends. Throughout his life, he candidly spoke about his ongoing battle with addiction, even at the height of his fame.
Ketamine is a rapid-acting anesthetic and is prescribed legally for conditions like anxiety and depression. However, it is frequently misused as a recreational drug due to its hallucinogenic properties.
Fleming represents the fourth individual sentenced in relation to the investigation surrounding Perry's death.
