Dubai has launched one of the globe’s largest awards dedicated to celebrating cultural heritage, the Erth Dubai Award. Initiated by His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, this prestigious accolade aims to honor both individuals and organizations dedicated to documenting and promoting the rich cultural heritage of the emirate.
This initiative invites citizens, residents, and institutions to share stories that embody the essence of Dubai’s social and cultural tapestry. By bridging the emirate’s dynamic past with its promising future, the award emphasizes the significance of preserving heritage alongside progress.
The total prize pool exceeds AED5 million, with categories including community, government, and private sector awards. Within the community section, various sub-categories highlight achievements like Best Creatively Documented Story, Best Documenting Family’s Legacy, Best Story on Social Media, Best Documenter of Dubai’s Oral Heritage, and Best Dubai Resident Story. Winners will be awarded AED500,000 each, while the grand prize for the best entry is AED1 million.
The Erth Dubai Award seeks innovative storytelling that genuinely captures the spirit of Emirati identity. All residents and citizens are encouraged to participate, and submissions will be preserved in an interactive digital archive to ensure long-term access for researchers, cultural institutions, and the general public.
Applications can be submitted via the Erth Dubai website or the Erth Dubai app, available on both the Apple Store and Google Play. The registration period closes on 15 January 2026, with the award ceremony set to take place in the first quarter of 2026.
This launch illustrates Dubai’s steadfast dedication to documenting its rich history, with the Erth Dubai initiative already garnering thousands of submissions from the community. By honoring these narratives, the award aims to protect the living heritage of the emirate while inspiring future generations to appreciate and continue its cultural legacy.
