Dubai Introduces AI-Driven Parking Cameras for Seamless Fee Collection

Dubai Introduces AI-Driven Parking Cameras for Seamless Fee Collection

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Dubai has commenced the deployment of an advanced AI-based parking system as Parkin, the emirate’s leading public parking operator, sets up numerous intelligent cameras throughout vital city locations. This initiative aims to streamline the collection of parking fees, enhance parking management, and alleviate traffic congestion.

In this project's initial phase, over 500 AI-equipped cameras have been installed in high-traffic areas such as Burj Khalifa, Trade Centre 1, and Al Corniche. The cameras are strategically placed on curbs and poles to monitor available parking spaces in real time.

The cutting-edge system employs artificial intelligence to capture images of vehicles and automatically recognize their number plates. It can identify when a car enters or exits a parking spot, measure the duration of parking, and facilitate payment processing without the need for drivers to interact with parking meters or send SMS messages.

Parkin stated that this project features the first curb-side camera technology in the region, designed to integrate seamlessly with Dubai’s urban landscape. Additionally, about 200 more cameras will be installed in controlled parking facilities across the emirate.

The smart cameras are powered entirely by solar energy, aligning with Dubai’s commitment to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly urban development.

The AI technology works in conjunction with the Parkin mobile application, available on iOS, Android, and Huawei platforms. Drivers can handle payments directly through the app's digital wallet, ensuring a streamlined and fully digital parking experience.

According to Parkin CEO Eng. Mohamed Abdulla Al Ali, this initiative is a significant progression in expanding Dubai’s smart parking framework while enhancing customer experiences throughout the emirate.

Officials believe that this technology will also help minimize congestion by providing real-time updates on parking space availability, significantly cutting down the time drivers spend searching for parking in busy locations.

Furthermore, the automated enforcement system is anticipated to enhance the precision of parking violation detection, decreasing the likelihood of erroneous fines since charges will be directly related to the actual parking duration.

Parkin CTO Eng. Talal Al Ajmi emphasized that the company's transition to a data-driven approach in parking management will bolster operational accuracy and consistency across Dubai.

This expansion is part of Dubai’s overarching strategy to incorporate artificial intelligence into public services, furthering the city’s smart mobility and digital infrastructure vision.
