Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan has taken responsibility for discrepancies linked to the Central Board of Secondary Education’s On-Screen Marking evaluation process and assured students that strict action will be taken against anyone found responsible for irregularities. The statement came after concerns were raised over technical and payment-related issues affecting students during the CBSE re-evaluation and verification process.
On Thursday, Pradhan chaired a high-level meeting with CBSE officials at the board’s headquarters in New Delhi to review complaints connected to the OSM system. The discussions focused on errors reported during answer sheet verification, technical glitches, and delays in payment processing related to re-evaluation requests.
The Education Minister stated that the government takes student concerns seriously and will ensure accountability if any intentional negligence or wrongdoing is discovered. He assured that no student’s future should suffer due to administrative or technical lapses within the evaluation system.
Dharmendra Pradhan also emphasized the importance of improving transparency and efficiency in the digital evaluation process adopted by CBSE. The On-Screen Marking system was introduced to modernize answer sheet assessment and reduce human error, but recent complaints have triggered widespread concern among students and parents.
During the meeting, officials reportedly discussed ways to strengthen technical monitoring, improve grievance redressal systems, and streamline the re-evaluation mechanism. Authorities are expected to examine whether software-related issues, operational mistakes, or procedural lapses contributed to the discrepancies.
The controversy has also entered the political arena after Pradhan criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during his remarks. The Education Minister accused Gandhi of being “frustrated” and opposing technological progress while defending the broader push toward digital reforms in India’s education system.
Students and parents across the country have expressed concern over the accuracy and reliability of digital evaluation methods following the reported discrepancies. Education experts say the incident highlights the growing need for stronger quality checks and transparent review mechanisms in technology-driven examination systems.
CBSE authorities have assured that all complaints linked to the OSM process are being reviewed carefully and corrective measures will be implemented wherever necessary. Officials also stated that protecting the academic interests of students remains the board’s highest priority.
The issue has once again sparked debate over balancing technological advancement with operational readiness in India’s education sector, especially during large-scale national examination processes involving millions of students every year.
