Delivery Hero, the German online food delivery giant, is reporting renewed momentum as its Asian operations show signs of a strong comeback. The company’s quarterly gross merchandise value (GMV)—a key measure of total goods sold—rose 7% to 12.2 billion euros ($14.2 billion), largely meeting analysts’ expectations of 12.25 billion euros.
A closer look at the numbers reveals that the growth is being fueled primarily by a turnaround in South Korea, where consumer demand for online takeaway and delivery services has picked up sharply. This recovery is helping Delivery Hero offset slower growth in some European markets and reinforces its strategy to strengthen presence in Asia.
Another highlight is the company’s quick commerce segment, which delivers groceries, household items, flowers, and pharmaceuticals. This segment reported its first-ever quarterly profit in Q3, now accounting for 7% of total GMV. The milestone points to improved operational efficiency and a positive outlook for reaching break-even across the division by year-end.
With the final quarter underway, Delivery Hero appears poised to accelerate overall GMV growth. Analysts suggest that continued recovery in Asia combined with strategic expansion in fast-moving consumer categories could provide the company with a strong finish to the year.
