Anshul Sharma’s family dramedy De De Pyaar De 2 marks the reunion of Ajay Devgn and R Madhavan following their success with last year's Shaitaan. The film reached its peak single-day earnings on Sunday, bringing in ₹13.75 crore at the domestic box office. This was a notable increase from Saturday's figure of ₹12.25 crore, reflecting a robust 40% rise from the opening day's ₹8.75 crore.
With this strong performance, the film finished its opening weekend with a total of ₹34.75 crore in India, surpassing the ₹24.75 crore debut of Son of Sardaar 2 earlier this year. However, despite its promising start, the film still lags behind the original De De Pyaar De, which had an impressive ₹39 crore (including paid previews) opening in 2019 and ultimately grossed over ₹100 crore, closing at ₹104.13 crore. It remains uncertain if the sequel will reach that landmark, and even if it does, surpassing Devgn’s standout film of the year, Raid 2, which earned ₹173.05 crore, appears unlikely.
Additionally, the film's opening is considerably lower compared to the previous collaboration between Devgn and Madhavan, Shaitaan, which earned ₹54 crore during its opening weekend and went on to achieve a total of ₹148 crore.
De De Pyaar De 2's box office trajectory may face hurdles in the upcoming weeks with several new releases slated, including 120 Bahadur, Mastii 4, Tere Ishk Mein, Gustaakh Ishq, and Dhurandhar. This increased competition could impact the film's long-term success.
