The Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department (IACAD) in Dubai has unveiled impressive developments in its “Neighbourhood Mosques” initiative, reporting that community contributions have surpassed AED 5.7 million in the first quarter of 2026.
Focusing on upgrading mosque facilities, the initiative aims to enhance worship. Notable improvements include the installation of new carpets in over 30 mosques, with investments exceeding AED 2 million. Furthermore, nearly 35 mosques benefited from maintenance and sponsorship valued beyond AED 3.7 million each year.
A central aspect of this project involves laying down approximately 15,500 square meters of premium carpeting, which fosters a safer and more welcoming environment for worshippers, enhancing overall operational efficacy.
In response to Dubai’s quick urban growth and rising population, this initiative ensures mosques are well-appointed and accessible, emphasizing their role as vital community hubs for fostering social unity, shared values, and a better quality of life.
Ahmed Darwish Al Muhairi, Director General of IACAD, highlighted that the initiative's expansion exemplifies increasing community awareness and responsibility. He pointed out that public contributions reflect a robust culture of giving in the UAE and a steadfast commitment to supporting mosque maintenance.
He further noted that this initiative establishes a sustainable collaboration between the community and the Department, effectively transforming charitable donations into enduring benefits for future generations, reinforcing mosques as bastions of unity and social stability.
Mohammed Jassim Al Mansoori, Director of the Customer Service Department and the initiative’s supervisor, shared that the initiative underscores the trust the community places in IACAD’s projects. He remarked that the initiative successfully converts community engagement into tangible enhancements, elevating mosque services to meet worshippers’ expectations.
Overall, the “Neighbourhood Mosques” initiative remains pivotal in nurturing Dubai’s vision of a linked, sustainable, and community-oriented society.
