China’s market regulator has introduced new guidance aimed at promoting fair competition among smartphone makers and mobile application platforms. The announcement was made in Shenzhen on Wednesday.
The guidance is designed to ensure that companies in the smartphone and app industries follow fair business practices and avoid unfair competition that could harm consumers or smaller businesses. Officials emphasized that the rules apply to all major players in the sector, including app stores, mobile software developers, and phone manufacturers.
The move comes as China seeks to strengthen regulations in its fast-growing technology market, prevent monopolistic behavior, and protect the rights of users and developers. The regulator also encouraged firms to improve compliance measures and adopt transparent business practices.
Industry experts say that the new guidance could impact how major smartphone brands and app platforms operate in China, potentially changing app store policies, payment rules, and partnerships with developers.
Authorities have not specified penalties for violations yet but have stressed that compliance will be closely monitored. Companies are expected to adjust their operations to align with the new standards in the coming months.
This step reflects China’s ongoing efforts to regulate the tech industry, promote innovation, and ensure fair competition in a sector that has seen rapid growth in recent years.
