Maddock Horror Comedy Universe Expands with Animated Spin-Off ‘Chhoti Stree’

Maddock Horror Comedy Universe Expands with Animated Spin-Off ‘Chhoti Stree’

Post by : Meena Ariff

The popular Stree franchise, known for its unique mix of horror and comedy, is preparing to delight audiences in a completely new way. At the trailer launch of the upcoming movie Thamma, actor Shraddha Kapoor revealed exciting details about the next chapter of the franchise, Chhoti Stree.

According to Shraddha, Chhoti Stree is not just another film in the series, but a very special part of the story. She said that this animated movie will help set the stage for Stree 3, the next live-action film in the franchise, and also reveal the much-anticipated backstory of Stree, which fans have been curious about for years.

Shraddha shared her excitement in a fun and lively way. She said,

“When Dinoo (Dinesh Vijan) told me about it, I said, Sach mein aapka naam Dinesh Vision hi hona chahiye! (‘Seriously, your name really should be Dinesh Vision’).”

This shows just how enthusiastic the actors are about this new animated film.

What is Chhoti Stree About?

Chhoti Stree is designed as an animated feature, meant to be enjoyed by children, families, and fans of the Stree franchise. While the earlier movies were live-action and focused on a mix of comedy and horror, this spin-off will use animation to tell a fun and engaging story.

What makes it more interesting is that the story of Chhoti Stree is connected directly to Stree 3. Producer Dinesh Vijan explained that the film is not only entertaining but also an important part of the main storyline. He said,

“The most exciting part is that Chhoti Stree will end with a scene from Stree 3. It will transition from animation to live-action and also answer the question, Stree ki backstory kya hai? (‘What is Stree’s backstory?’).”

This means that Chhoti Stree is more than just a children’s film. It is also a bridge that links the previous films in the franchise to the next big movie. Fans can expect to learn secrets about Stree’s past while enjoying an entertaining and colorful animated world.

The movie is planned to release six months before Stree 3, giving audiences a chance to enjoy the story and get ready for the next live-action installment.

Shraddha Kapoor on Chhoti Stree

Shraddha Kapoor, who has been an important part of the Stree franchise since the first film, described Chhoti Stree as her favorite part of the series. She said that she was immediately excited when the idea was shared with her, and she loved the creative approach taken by the makers.

Her comments highlight how the actors and creators of the franchise are personally invested in making the films special and enjoyable for viewers. Shraddha’s enthusiasm reflects the fun and imaginative nature of the upcoming animated movie, which promises to attract both young audiences and long-time fans of Stree.

The Stree Franchise: A Huge Success

The Stree franchise has been one of the most successful and popular series in India in recent years. Its unique combination of horror and comedy has made it a favorite among audiences of all ages.

  • Stree (2018): The first movie in the franchise starred Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor. Made on a modest budget of about ₹20 crore, it went on to earn more than ₹180 crore worldwide. The story focused on a small town haunted by a mysterious female spirit called Stree, who targets men during festive nights. The film was praised for its mix of humor, suspense, and social commentary.

  • Stree 2: The sequel was even more successful, collecting over ₹801 crore globally within just 35 days. This movie expanded the story, added new characters, and introduced more twists, keeping the audience engaged and entertained.

  • Spin-Offs: Along with the main films, the franchise also introduced spin-offs like Roohi and Bhediya. These movies added new stories and characters to the growing universe, allowing Maddock Films to explore different aspects of horror and comedy in innovative ways.

The total earnings of the franchise now exceed ₹1,000 crore, making it one of India’s most successful horror-comedy universes. This demonstrates the strong popularity and appeal of the Stree series among audiences, who eagerly wait for every new installment.

Animation: A New Direction for the Franchise

With Chhoti Stree, Maddock Films is taking a bold step by introducing animation into the franchise. Unlike the live-action films, this movie will use animated visuals to tell the story, creating a colorful and imaginative world for viewers.

Animation allows the filmmakers to explore creative ideas that may not be possible in live-action. It also opens the franchise to younger audiences, making it enjoyable for children while still connecting to the main storyline for older fans.

The transition from animation to live-action at the end of the movie is another unique feature. This clever storytelling technique will directly connect Chhoti Stree to Stree 3, making it a vital part of the overall story arc.

Thamma: Another Exciting Film from Maddock

During the same event, the makers also promoted Thamma, another upcoming film from Maddock Films. Thamma stars Ayushmann Khurrana, Rashmika Mandanna, and Nawazuddin Siddiqui in important roles and is set to release on October 21. While not directly connected to the Stree universe, the film adds to the growing list of successful projects from Maddock Films.

What Fans Can Expect

Fans of the franchise can look forward to several exciting elements in Chhoti Stree:

  • A fun animated story suitable for children and families.

  • Humor and adventure, keeping the spirit of the Stree franchise alive.

  • A narrative connection to Stree 3, providing answers to long-standing questions about Stree’s backstory.

  • A transition from animation to live-action, offering a unique cinematic experience.

The film promises to be both entertaining and important for the Stree universe, combining laughter, suspense, and storytelling in a way that only Maddock Films can deliver.

With the announcement of Chhoti Stree, the Maddock Horror Comedy Universe is entering a new and exciting phase. By introducing animation, connecting it to the upcoming Stree 3, and revealing secrets about the mysterious Stree, the franchise is setting new standards for storytelling in Indian cinema.

Fans can eagerly wait for Chhoti Stree, which will release six months before Stree 3, and enjoy a story that is fun, colorful, and full of surprises. The Stree franchise continues to prove that a good mix of comedy, horror, and imagination can create some of the most successful and loved films in India.
