Liverpool icon Jamie Carragher has strongly rebuked Mohamed Salah for his recent comments concerning Reds manager Arne Slot, calling the remarks simply “disgraceful.”
Salah expressed his frustration after being excluded from the starting lineup for Saturday’s 3-3 stalemate against Leeds, stating he felt “thrown under the bus” and lacking a relationship with Slot. This incident marks his third consecutive game being sidelined, following a noticeable dip in his performance.
In reaction, Liverpool has excluded the 33-year-old from the squad for the upcoming Champions League match against Inter Milan, signaling their discontent with his remarks.
Discussing the incident, Carragher, who once won the Champions League with Liverpool, remarked: “I considered his outburst a disgrace. Some might view it as an emotional reaction, but I disagree. When Salah stops in mixed zones, it’s typically premeditated with his agent for maximum effect. He chose a critical moment for the club to address issues concerning the manager, perhaps hoping to prompt change.”
Salah has played a pivotal role for Liverpool, securing two Premier League titles and a Champions League victory in his eight years at the club. Even after signing a contract extension in April, he hinted at possibly playing his last game for Liverpool as he prepares for the African Cup of Nations following the Premier League match with Brighton.
The 33-year-old has been linked with a lucrative transfer to the Saudi Pro League. In this context, Carragher expressed, “The club made the right choice in preventing him from moving abroad. His future with Liverpool remains uncertain. He’s among the club’s all-time greats, but if this conduct persists, his tenure here could be at risk.”
Salah's statements and subsequent exclusion from the roster have sparked significant concerns about his future at Liverpool during a challenging phase for the club, both on and off the pitch.
