Jeff Bezos’ space exploration company, Blue Origin, has unveiled plans to create a more powerful variant of its New Glenn rocket, named the New Glenn 9x4. This comes on the heels of the recent successful launch of New Glenn’s second mission last week. The updated design is intended to strengthen Blue Origin’s foothold in the satellite launch arena, where Elon Musk’s SpaceX reigns supreme with its Falcon rocket series.
The New Glenn 9x4 will feature nine engines on its first stage and four on the second stage, marking an increase of two engines per stage from the original New Glenn model. This enhancement elevates the power and payload capabilities of the rocket.
Blue Origin’s initiative represents a substantial leap toward establishing its own lineup of rockets that can effectively compete with SpaceX’s established systems. By expanding the size and functionality of New Glenn, the company seeks to transport heavier payloads, tackle complex missions, and cater to the surging demand for commercial and governmental launches.
The innovation behind the New Glenn 9x4 underscores Blue Origin’s aspiration to enhance its technological capabilities, boost performance in space logistics, and solidify its standing in the fast-evolving global space sector.
Further updates regarding the design specifications, launch timetable, and upcoming missions will be disclosed as the project progresses.
