Thailand’s Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul visited victims injured in the deadly train-bus collision in Bangkok and assured families that the government would provide full support and compensation to those affected.
The Prime Minister, who also serves as Interior Minister, visited Camillian Hospital in Bangkok along with Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Angkasakulkiat on May 17, 2026. During the visit, they met injured passengers receiving treatment after the tragic accident at the Makkasan railway crossing on Asoke-Din Daeng Road.
Officials presented fruit baskets and spoke with patients and their families while monitoring the medical condition of those hospitalized after the crash. Authorities described the incident as a tragedy that nobody wanted to happen.
Prime Minister Anutin instructed all relevant agencies to quickly conduct a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident. He said the findings would help authorities introduce stronger safety measures to prevent similar railway crossing accidents in the future.
The government confirmed that both the State Railway of Thailand and the Bangkok Mass Transit Authority would jointly provide compensation and medical support for victims and the families of those who lost their lives in the crash.
Deputy Minister Siripong stated that Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn also expressed condolences to the victims’ families and ordered transport agencies to strengthen safety measures at high-risk railway crossings across the country.
Siripong was additionally assigned to visit injured victims receiving treatment at Rajavithi Hospital, Phramongkutklao Hospital, and Ramathibodi Hospital to personally monitor their conditions and offer support on behalf of the government.
According to the latest official report released at 11:00 AM, the accident resulted in 8 deaths and 30 injuries. Victims are currently being treated at several hospitals across Bangkok, while some injured passengers have already recovered and been discharged.
Authorities said the investigation into the cause of the train-bus collision remains ongoing and updates will be released as new information becomes available.
