Ariana Grande Suspends ‘Wicked’ Promotions Following COVID Diagnosis

Ariana Grande Suspends ‘Wicked’ Promotions Following COVID Diagnosis

Post by : Meena Ariff

Ariana Grande has confirmed that she has tested positive for COVID, interrupting her promotional activities for Wicked: For Good. The announcement came through an Instagram story where she shared a photo from her guest appearance on The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon, captioned “Moments before Covid.” This diagnosis follows her notable absence during interview rounds at the New York premiere, triggering speculation about her well-being.

Cynthia Erivo, Grande’s co-star, also disclosed that she has been feeling unwell, revealing a lost voice. While both actresses tested positive at different intervals, their health challenges have previously overlapped. During the filming of the initial Wicked movie, Erivo tested positive shortly before performing the iconic “Defying Gravity,” while Grande’s earlier diagnosis occurred days before filming the number “Popular.”

As a result of her COVID diagnosis, Grande has withdrawn from a pre-recorded segment for The Kelly Clarkson Show and will not participate in several Q&A sessions related to the film's release. Her absence is particularly felt, given the intense promotional schedule leading up to the film's launch.

Wicked: For Good, directed by Jon M. Chu and scheduled for release on November 21, extends the saga of Glinda and Elphaba following the first film’s narrative. Ariana Grande reprises her role as Glinda, the bright emblem of good in Emerald City, while Cynthia Erivo’s Elphaba faces escalating antagonism from the authorities in Oz. Dubbed the Wicked Witch, she is determined to unveil the truth about The Wizard, portrayed by Jeff Goldblum.

Even with the disruption brought on by the COVID tests, promotions for the eagerly awaited film are slated to resume once the cast members fully recover. With a deep-rooted legacy and a growing fanbase, Wicked: For Good remains one of this year's most anticipated global cinematic releases.
