Apple TV's streaming service faced a critical outage on Thursday, leaving countless viewers across the United States stranded without access to their favorite content. The outage-tracking site Downdetector.com recorded a peak of approximately 14,907 users reporting issues, making it one of the more substantial service failures in recent times.
The problems began to emerge around midday U.S. time, as frustrated viewers flooded social media with complaints about buffering delays, connection errors, and blank screens. Numerous subscribers noted they were either logged out unexpectedly or unable to retrieve their watchlists.
While the outage was felt nationwide, cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Houston reported the highest volumes of disruptions. Downdetector’s outage map displayed a swift rise in complaints before showing signs of recovery later in the day.
Users expressed their exasperation, pointing out the timing, which coincided with peak hours for popular TV shows and live sports on Apple TV+. Some viewers noted that their services briefly resumed, only to stall again, indicating a technical glitch rather than a full system failure.
By late evening, most users found their services returning to normal, though some were still experiencing isolated playback issues. Apple's system status page indicated no major alerts, suggesting that internal teams were diligently working to rectify the problems.
Subscribers remain hopeful that this is an isolated incident, as concerns grow over the platform's reliability amidst Apple TV's ongoing global expansion.
