Anwar Ibrahim returned to his hometown in Permatang Pauh on Tuesday for a brief working visit ahead of the Aidiladha celebrations. The visit focused on community engagement and the distribution of sacrificial cows to several local constituencies as Muslims across Malaysia prepare to celebrate one of Islam’s most significant religious occasions.
The Malaysian Prime Minister, who also serves as Finance Minister, began his visit by attending an event at the Seberang Perai Tengah District Mosque. During the program, Anwar presented sacrificial cows to residents from the Permatang Pauh parliamentary constituency as well as the Seberang Jaya state constituency.
Following the mosque event, Anwar travelled to his village area to continue Aidiladha-related community activities. He later handed over sacrificial cows to residents in the Permatang Pasir state constituency during a gathering held at Masjid Al-Falah in Pengkalan Tambang.
The final stop of the Prime Minister’s visit took place in Padang Mengkuang Titi, Kubang Semang, where he presented sacrificial cows to the Penanti state constituency community. Local residents and community leaders gathered to welcome the Prime Minister during the short visit before he returned to the national capital later in the day.
Aidiladha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is one of the most important Islamic celebrations observed by Muslims worldwide. The occasion commemorates the willingness of Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son as an act of obedience to God. In Malaysia, the celebration is traditionally marked by communal prayers and the sacrifice of livestock, with meat distributed to families and people in need.
Anwar Ibrahim has long maintained strong ties with Permatang Pauh, a constituency closely associated with his political career and family history. Before becoming Prime Minister, he previously served as Member of Parliament for the area and remains a highly influential political figure in Penang and across Malaysia.
Political observers noted that the visit reflects Anwar’s continued emphasis on grassroots engagement and maintaining close relationships with local communities. Community-based religious programs and festive visits remain an important part of Malaysia’s political and cultural landscape, especially during major Islamic celebrations.
Muslims across Malaysia are expected to celebrate Aidiladha on Wednesday with prayers, family gatherings, and charitable activities taking place nationwide. Authorities have also increased preparations for holiday travel and religious events as millions of people participate in the annual celebrations.
