On Wednesday, November 5, veteran film actor Anupam Kher, 70, travelled to Amritsar’s Golden Temple to pay homage to Guru Nanak Dev Ji as the community marked his 556th birth anniversary.
Sharing a video from his visit on social media, Kher wrote, “Best wishes and congratulations to all of you on the occasion of Guru Nanak Dev Ji's birth anniversary! Happy Guru Nanak Dev Jayanti to all.”
Guru Nanak Jayanti celebrates the birth of the 15th-century founder of Sikhism and is observed with prayers, processions and communal meals known as ‘langars’. The festivities reflect Guru Nanak’s teachings of selfless service, equality and devotion to one God. The day is declared a public holiday in states such as Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
In a separate note on recent events, Kher had also sent birthday wishes to Shah Rukh Khan on his 60th birthday, recreating the actor’s look from Mohabbatein and lauding his energy and career. Shah Rukh replied appreciatively, recalling warm memories with Kher, who has often portrayed his father in films including Veer-Zaara, Mohabbatein, Kuch Kuch Hota Hai and Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge.
