Renowned Telangana Poet Andesri Passes Away at 64

Renowned Telangana Poet Andesri Passes Away at 64

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Hyderabad — Eminent poet and lyricist Andesri, famous for composing Telangana’s official song “Jaya Jayahe Telangana”, has died at the age of 64 while being treated at Gandhi Hospital in Hyderabad. His passing signifies a profound loss for the Telangana movement.

Sources from the hospital reported that Andesri’s health took a turn for the worse late on Sunday night. After collapsing at his home in Lalaguda, family members rushed him to Gandhi Hospital, but he unfortunately passed away around 7:30 a.m. on Monday.

Born Ande Yellaiah in Rebarthi village, Jangaon district, Andesri achieved recognition despite lacking formal education. His passion for poetry secured him profound respect throughout Telangana. His renowned work “Mayamai Pothunnadamma” brought him significant acclaim, leading Kakatiya University to honor him with a doctorate for his literary impact.

A dedicated advocate for the Telangana movement, Andesri’s poetic works became powerful voices for the public's yearning for statehood. His lyrical brilliance in “Jaya Jayahe Telangana” officially represents the pride and spirit of the region as its state song.

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed heartfelt condolences over the poet’s death, calling it a great loss to the state’s literary scene. He noted the poet was honored earlier this year on Telangana Formation Day and mentioned that Andesri’s final rites will be held with full state honors.

He is survived by his son and three daughters. Tributes are flowing in from numerous poets, writers, and admirers, all remembering him as a poet who articulated the aspirations of a movement.
