BUTTERWORTH – Amanah is in the final stages of deciding the number of candidates it will field in the upcoming Sabah state election, scheduled for next month. Vice-president Adly Zahari confirmed that the party has already shortlisted several candidates, with final negotiations still ongoing among component parties within Pakatan Harapan (PH) regarding seat allocation.
Speaking after attending the graduation ceremony and launch of the Armed Forces Fund Board’s Wira Entrepreneur Empowerment Programme at Butterworth air base, Adly, who is also the deputy defence minister, said the party is actively cooperating with coalition partners. “Indeed, we (Amanah), through PH, are cooperating with friends from Gabungan Rakyat Sabah and also Barisan Nasional in holding negotiations on seat division,” he said, underlining the careful planning behind Amanah’s approach for the Sabah state election.
Adly did not disclose the exact number of seats Amanah would contest but emphasized that all candidates are local leaders with strong community ties. “Our focus is on ensuring that Amanah’s candidates for the Sabah state election are closely connected to their constituencies and able to represent the people effectively,” he said. The party is keen to project candidates who resonate with voters and understand local issues firsthand.
The upcoming Sabah state election, announced by the Election Commission yesterday, is set for Nov 29, with nomination day on Nov 15. Early voting will take place on Nov 25. Out of 79 seats in the Sabah legislative assembly, 73 will be contested in the election, while six are appointed state assemblymen. Amanah’s strategy and candidate selection are expected to play a pivotal role in the coalition’s performance in the Sabah state election.
With discussions ongoing among PH partners, Amanah is working to finalize its lineup in time for the nomination process. Adly highlighted that the party’s participation in the Sabah state election is aimed at strengthening PH’s presence in the state, building voter confidence, and presenting candidates who can effectively advocate for local needs and development.
As the Sabah state election draws closer, all eyes will be on how Amanah and its coalition partners navigate seat negotiations and finalize candidates. Analysts believe the party’s careful selection of community-rooted candidates could be a decisive factor in influencing voter sentiment and the overall outcome of the election.
