The Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), in collaboration with the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), has announced significant achievements in the 2025–2026 influenza vaccination campaign. Over 350,000 residents have received their flu shots, marking the highest vaccination count in recent years and underscoring a commitment to community health.
Running from September 2025 to March 2026, this campaign focuses on preventing flu infections, safeguarding vulnerable populations, and bolstering community immunity during winter. Compared to the previous season of 2022–2023, where 162,761 residents were vaccinated, this year's numbers have more than doubled.
To enhance accessibility, ADPHC has established vaccination teams in malls, majlis, workplaces, embassies, accommodation for workers, and various governmental entities, bolstered by community awareness initiatives. Weekly activations in malls across Abu Dhabi, Al Ain, and Al Dhafra, along with local majlis events, contribute to the campaign's expansive reach. The initiative prioritizes older adults, children, expectant mothers, individuals with chronic conditions, and frontline health workers.
Additionally, ADPHC emphasizes essential preventive practices including frequent handwashing, cough etiquette, steering clear of sick individuals, and resting at home when feeling unwell. Together with vaccinations, these measures help minimize the transmission of influenza.
Recent health monitoring indicates that many hospitalizations due to flu complications involve individuals who have not been vaccinated, particularly among older adults, children, and those with chronic illnesses. This observation echoes global findings which highlight the vaccine’s efficacy in preventing serious illness and complications.
According to HE Dr. Rashed Al Suwaidi, Director General of ADPHC, “Achieving over 350,000 vaccinations reflects Abu Dhabi’s resolute dedication to prevention and the well-being of our community. We urge everyone to get vaccinated for their safety and that of others.”
Seasonal influenza is a predominant respiratory infection globally, with annual vaccinations recognized as the best approach to reducing illness, complications, and the strain on healthcare systems. Abu Dhabi is providing updated vaccines in line with international health guidelines.
Residents can access flu vaccines at participating primary health facilities or through community vaccination booths throughout the emirate, with ADPHC set to continue broadening outreach, monitoring trends, and collaborating with partners to ensure robust public health readiness.
