On November 4, 2025 at 4:40pm UAE time, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) recorded a 4.6-magnitude earthquake beneath southern Musandam in Oman. The agency said the event occurred at a shallow depth of about 5 kilometres and its effects were perceptible in northern emirates including Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.
Local authorities confirmed there were no casualties, injuries or structural damage following the tremor. Residents reported brief moments of shaking, but essential services and daily routines continued uninterrupted. NCM noted that low-magnitude, shallow earthquakes are relatively common in offshore areas of the region.
Many people took to social media to share short videos and first-hand accounts of the sudden jolt. Online reactions largely reflected surprise and interest rather than alarm, as the shaking was short-lived and limited in intensity.
Although the UAE lies in a generally low seismic-risk zone, its proximity to the Zagros fault system in southern Iran and Oman means northern and eastern areas can occasionally feel tremors. The NCM maintains continuous seismic monitoring and issues timely alerts to both the public and relevant authorities when activity occurs.
By evening, normal conditions had returned. Seismologists reiterated that minor events like this are usually harmless but serve as useful reminders about the value of public awareness and preparedness measures.
In short, the 4.6-magnitude quake off Musandam produced brief tremors across parts of the UAE without causing harm or damage, and highlighted the region’s intermittent seismic activity.
