Washington, D.C. — This Friday, the 2026 FIFA World Cup draw promises a dazzling evening as renowned athletes and entertainers unite. Feature acts include NFL superstar Tom Brady and NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, ensuring a blend of sports excellence and glamour.
Joining these icons will be football legend Rio Ferdinand, MLB star Aaron Judge, and hockey great Wayne Gretzky. This significant event will set the stage for group placements among 64 countries, expanding from the previous 32 teams for the first time in history.
A Glamorous Hosting Team
The ceremony will see model Heidi Klum sharing hosting duties with actors Kevin Hart and Danny Ramirez, enhancing the event’s allure. Spectacular performances featuring stars like Nicole Scherzinger, Andrea Bocelli, Robbie Williams, and the Village People are expected to elevate the entertainment factor. Additionally, FIFA will present its inaugural Peace Prize, honoring outstanding contributions to global peace.
New Tournament Structure and Schedule
The 2026 World Cup signifies a transformative phase in the tournament’s history, featuring 104 matches across 16 venues in North America. Eleven NFL stadiums in the U.S. will host a total of 78 games, including all knockout rounds, while Mexico and Canada will each hold 13 matches. The grand finale is set for July 19 at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, boasting a halftime show for the first time ever in World Cup history.
The new format allows the top two from each group, plus the eight best third-placed teams, to advance, creating a round of 32. Teams could vie for glory across up to eight matches. The U.S. team will launch its quest on June 12 in Inglewood, California, with additional games in Seattle and a final group match in Inglewood on June 25.
A Global Celebration
Tom Brady, a part-owner of Birmingham City in the English Championship, views this draw as a “global stage every athlete dreams of.” The upcoming ceremony is shaping into a festive occasion celebrating soccer, cultural diversity, sportsmanship, and entertainment—an exciting countdown to one of the most awaited tournaments in recent times.
