Malaysia’s rising men’s doubles pair Wan Muhammad Arif Shaharuddin and Yap Roy King have set a clear goal of finishing on the podium at the upcoming Badminton Asia Championships 2026, scheduled to be held in Ningbo from April 7 to 12.

Currently ranked world No.16, the Malaysian duo is focusing heavily on improving match consistency and composure during crucial stages of play. Wan Arif highlighted that handling pressure situations and converting key points will be critical if they are to compete against Asia’s top-ranked pairs.

The tournament will take place at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Centre, a major venue that regularly hosts international badminton events under the Badminton World Federation calendar. The Badminton Asia Championships is one of the most prestigious continental tournaments, often featuring elite players from powerhouse nations like China, Indonesia, Japan, and South Korea.

Wan Arif and Yap last reached the quarter-finals at the Kumamoto Masters Japan in late 2025, marking one of their best recent performances. They also clinched the Macau Open title in August 2025 after defeating Indonesia’s strong pair, showcasing their ability to perform under pressure in high-stakes matches.

Despite the upcoming Thomas Cup 2026 in Horsens later in April, Wan Arif stressed that the pair is not distracted by selection concerns. Instead, they are fully focused on delivering a strong showing at BAC 2026.

Following a short break during Eid al-Fitr in Terengganu, the duo has resumed intensive training with renewed energy. Their aim is not only to reach the quarter-finals but also to challenge and potentially upset top-10 ranked opponents in Asia.

With Malaysia continuing to produce competitive badminton talents, all eyes will be on Wan Arif and Yap Roy King as they attempt to make a breakthrough on one of Asia’s biggest badminton stages.
