UN Urges Immediate Ceasefire Under Resolution 1701

UN Urges Immediate Ceasefire Under Resolution 1701

Post by : Shakul

The United Nations has called for the immediate use of all available diplomatic channels to end ongoing hostilities and address unresolved issues under Security Council Resolution 1701. The appeal comes amid rising concerns over civilian safety and humanitarian conditions.

UN spokesperson Stephane Dujarric confirmed during a press conference that the UN system is fully prepared to work with all parties involved to facilitate dialogue and support de-escalation efforts. He stressed the urgency of reaching a ceasefire.

Efforts on the ground are being led by Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert, who continues to engage with stakeholders to ensure full implementation of the resolution. Her focus remains on achieving a permanent ceasefire and a sustainable long-term solution to the conflict.

Despite ongoing tensions, UN peacekeeping forces are continuing their field operations. Their role includes preventing clashes, protecting civilians, and ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid wherever possible, even under challenging conditions.

Dujarric emphasized the importance of safeguarding UN personnel and respecting humanitarian operations. He highlighted that peacekeepers and aid workers must be allowed to carry out their duties without obstruction or threat.

He also reiterated the urgent need for all parties to commit to protecting civilians, ensuring uninterrupted access for humanitarian assistance, and mobilizing financial support for those affected by the conflict.

The UN’s renewed call underscores the critical need for immediate action to stabilize the situation and prevent further escalation, while prioritizing humanitarian needs and diplomatic solutions.
