In a significant advancement for the clean-fuel industry, the UAE is poised to unveil its first independent Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) testing and certification laboratory in Fujairah, following a pivotal partnership between MENA Biofuels and Saybolt International. This initiative, announced during the prominent ADIPEC 2025 event, highlights the growing commitment to decarbonise the aviation sector.
Located within the Fujairah Oil Industry Zone, this facility will adhere to internationally recognised standards for testing and certification. Upon commencement of operations, it will provide independent assessments to ensure that all SAF produced in the UAE meets global aviation fuel criteria for both local carriers and international export markets. This initiative is crucial in establishing a transparent and traceable SAF value chain in the region.
This agreement is part of a broader network of collaborations that MENA Biofuels has fostered with key national energy stakeholders during ADIPEC 2025 and the Dubai Airshow. Recent contracts with Emarat, ENOC, ADNOC, and Evertree have laid a robust foundation for an integrated ecosystem that encompasses feedstock, production, testing, certification, and delivery to airlines, reflecting the UAE's pivotal role in advancing cleaner aviation fuel technologies.
Equipped with cutting-edge instruments for fuel analysis, lifecycle-emission evaluation, and feedstock traceability, Fujairah is set to become a premier hub for SAF certification. This project also aligns with the UAE's efforts to launch its first commercial SAF production facility in the emirate, marking a significant milestone in its ambition to become a leader in sustainable fuel innovation and quality assurance.
By founding this independent laboratory, the UAE enhances its capability to fulfil the increasing global demand for trustworthy and sustainable aviation fuel, signifying another key stride towards cleaner skies and a more competitive future in aviation.
