Hanan Balkhy, the WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean, lauded the UAE for establishing a highly sophisticated health system. In a conversation with WAM during the Abu Dhabi Finance Week, she emphasized the UAE's capability in managing health crises with efficiency, quick action, and meticulous planning. The UAE's impressive performance during the COVID-19 pandemic exemplified its robust epidemiological tracking, prompt decision-making, and seamless collaboration between the public and private sectors to maintain uninterrupted healthcare services.
Balkhy noted that the UAE's provision of high-quality medical care positions it as a benchmark for other nations. She pointed out that its well-equipped infrastructure, state-of-the-art technology, and skilled workforce demonstrate the nation's commitment to enhancing public health. According to her, a coherent and well-organized health system is quite effective in addressing both emergencies and ongoing health challenges.
She also underscored the significance of attending Abu Dhabi Finance Week, as it provides the WHO an opportunity to engage with donors, partners, and advocates focused on global health initiatives. Balkhy emphasized that collaborative efforts are crucial in tackling major health issues and ensuring sustainable health advancement.
She elaborated that donors hail from various sectors including governments, private enterprises, and international bodies. Their contributions are vital for enhancing research, fortifying health infrastructures, and developing long-term community solutions. Balkhy added that a unified approach allows all stakeholders to manage public health challenges more proficiently and establish more robust health systems for the future. The UAE's experience, she highlighted, illustrates how cooperation, innovation, and dedicated effort can lead to a modern and resilient healthcare environment.
