UAE Triumphs at Outdoor Badminton World Cup in Khorfakkan

KHORFAKKAN, UAE: In a remarkable display of athleticism, the UAE emerged victorious in the Outdoor Badminton World Cup – National Teams Relay Race, defeating China 60–54 in a nail-biting final set against the picturesque backdrop of Khorfakkan Beach.

This event, held under the esteemed patronage of H.H. Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah, gathered elite international teams to participate in a distinctive outdoor format that emphasized skill, resilience, and collaboration. The final showcased an intense rivalry as the UAE and China battled tirelessly, captivating fans until the final whistle.

During the closing ceremony, Sheikh Saeed bin Saqr Al Qasimi, Deputy Chief of the Sharjah Ruler’s Office in Khorfakkan, honored the UAE national team with the championship trophy, a significant milestone for both the players and the event hosts. This occasion further solidified Khorfakkan’s reputation as a prestigious venue for hosting international sports events, seamlessly integrating competitive spirit with a vibrant coastal ambiance.

In addition to the team relay, the tournament featured singles competitions, with Brazil claiming victory in the men’s triples, while China took home the title in women’s triples, enhancing the championship’s global significance and variety.

The conclusion of the event saw the presentation of the championship trophy alongside accolades for organizers, partners, and supporting entities vital to the tournament's success. The participation of 96 athletes from 12 nations across various continents highlighted the growing international reach of outdoor badminton.

The robust attendance throughout the championship emphasized badminton’s increasing popularity in the UAE, particularly among Emirati enthusiasts, as the sport continues to thrive within the nation. This victory not only underscored the national team’s achievements on the global stage but also reaffirmed the UAE’s dedication to nurturing and promoting innovative sporting formats.
