UAE Strongly Condemns Drone Strike Targeting UN Peacekeepers

UAE Strongly Condemns Drone Strike Targeting UN Peacekeepers

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In a concerning escalation of violence in Sudan, a drone attack on a United Nations logistics base in Kadugli resulted in the deaths of six Bangladeshi peacekeepers, with eight others injured. This incident specifically targeted the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA), dedicated to preserving peace in the fragile Abyei region.

The assault, which took place on Saturday, has sent shockwaves through the international community. The UAE, via its Ministry of Foreign Affairs, voiced a firm condemnation of the attack, reaffirming its strong stance against any acts of violence that threaten both regional and global stability.

UNISFA, tasked with peacekeeping along the border between Sudan and South Sudan, operates under mandates from the UN Security Council. Attacks on these peacekeeping missions are recognized as violations of international law, directly undermining peace efforts in tumultuous regions. Local investigative bodies are allegedly probing the incident, as the global community calls for accountability.

The UAE has offered profound condolences to the families of the deceased, the interim government of Bangladesh, and the United Nations, while wishing a speedy recovery for the injured individuals. This tragic occurrence sheds light on the increasingly perilous circumstances faced by peacekeepers in conflict zones and raises critical questions regarding the security of international missions in unstable territories.
