UAE Pavilion Clinches Silver Award at Expo 2025 Osaka

UAE Pavilion Clinches Silver Award at Expo 2025 Osaka

Post by : Maya Rahman

The UAE Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka has proudly earned the Silver Award at the DFA Design for Asia Awards, a prestigious event hosted by the Hong Kong Design Centre. This accolade highlights exemplary designs from across Asia that embody cultural creativity and significant social influence. It underscores the pavilion’s esteemed global stature and impactful architecture.

During the six-month expo, the UAE Pavilion revealed an extraordinary fusion of design, artistry, and narrative. Its theme draws inspiration from the UAE’s iconic date palm tree while echoing traditional Emirati areesh structures. The pavilion ingeniously merges agricultural residue from date palms with cutting-edge Japanese woodworking techniques, representing a harmonious blend of Emirati and Japanese artistry.

Among the pavilion's most striking elements is a stunning array of 90 rachis columns, each soaring to an impressive height of 16 metres. These were crafted by the Earth to Ether Design Collective, a collaborative team of Emirati and Japanese designers. This partnership exemplifies the UAE’s dedication to cultural dialogue and innovative progress, establishing the pavilion as a beacon of collaborative creativity.

Shihab Al Faheem, UAE Ambassador to Japan and Commissioner General of the UAE Pavilion, stated that this award is a testament to the superb teamwork among partners from the UAE, Japan, and beyond. He emphasized that the pavilion embodies the UAE’s identity and its aspirations for a future rooted in openness and mutual growth. Al Faheem highlighted that over five million guests identified the pavilion as a top attraction at Expo 2025 Osaka, drawn in by its immersive experience and poignant storytelling that bridges cultural divides.
