UAE Increases Humanitarian Support to Flood-Stricken Sri Lanka

UAE Increases Humanitarian Support to Flood-Stricken Sri Lanka

Post by : Badri Ariffin

In response to acute flooding and landslides devastating communities in Ditwah, the UAE has dispatched its seventh humanitarian aid flight to Sri Lanka. This latest batch includes food, shelter equipment, and vital relief supplies, bringing the total aid delivered to an impressive 89 tonnes.

On the ground, the UAE has mobilized a comprehensive emergency response team, which includes members from the Joint Operations Command, the UAE Aid Agency, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority, and the UAE Search & Rescue Team, operating under the Abu Dhabi Civil Defence Authority. These teams are actively coordinating efforts to assist families impacted by the floods and restore order in the most severely affected locations.

The UAE Search & Rescue Team has been engaged in intensive operations within their assigned zone, successfully recovering 18 bodies of flood victims. They have also rendered immediate medical assistance to eight individuals who were either injured or displaced by this disaster. The increase in relief efforts highlights the urgent need for continued support as flooding disrupts daily activities, damages residential areas, and isolates communities from essential services.

With additional flights on standby if necessary, the UAE’s ongoing missions are dedicated to ensuring that food, medical assistance, and shelter reach families grappling with the aftermath of this devastating weather event.
