A major student art exhibition at the State Academy of Arts of Turkmenistan in Ashgabat has attracted attention for showcasing the creativity and artistic talent of the country’s next generation of painters and sculptors. The exhibition featured more than 100 works created by five talented students from the painting and sculpture departments.
Several artworks displayed at the exhibition are already part of the Academy’s prestigious Golden Collection, reflecting the high artistic level achieved by the young participants. The event highlighted not only technical skill but also the cultural identity and emotional depth present in contemporary Turkmen art.
Among the standout works were sculptures created by student Serdar Jumayev, including a bust of famous vocalist and People’s Artist of Turkmenistan Atajan Berdiyev. Another notable sculpture portrayed Serdar’s teacher, renowned sculptor Babasary Annamyradov, holding a large apple — a symbolic feature often associated with the artist’s creative identity. The sculpture impressed visitors and even surprised the teacher himself because it was crafted entirely from memory.
The exhibition also featured the large-scale painting “Music of Peace, Music of Friendship” by student Jumamurat Gurbanov. The colorful artwork depicted a festive public celebration in the modern city of Arkadag and became one of the central attractions of the exhibition. Gurbanov also presented a portrait of his teacher Annadurdy Almamedov, which visitors praised for its realistic and honest artistic approach.
Young artist Arzuv Atayev displayed several works including the celebrated painting “Who’s First!” which earned a place in the Academy’s Golden Collection. The artwork captures the tense emotions of cyclists preparing for competition and reflects the psychological depth that has become one of the artist’s strengths.
Another participant, Bayly Aynazarov, gained recognition for his “Heavenly Horses” series featuring the famous Akhal-Teke horses of Turkmenistan. His portrait of celebrated poet Magtymguly Fragi was also praised as one of the finest artistic interpretations dedicated to the historic literary figure.
Sculpture student Guljan Shokhratgeldiyeva attracted significant attention with her emotionally expressive sculptures, particularly works featuring Alabay dogs and children. Her composition “The First Step,” portraying a child protected by his mother while taking his first steps into the world, became one of the exhibition’s most admired pieces.
Organizers and teachers described the exhibition as an important milestone for the participating students as they begin their professional artistic journeys. Visitors praised the exhibition for reflecting both the traditions of Turkmen art and the modern creative vision of the country’s emerging young artists.
