In a decisive move, US President Donald Trump has declared a 48-hour deadline for Iran to reopen the critically important Strait of Hormuz. This announcement, made on March 26 via social media, warns Tehran that failure to comply will lead to serious repercussions.
Reminding Iran of a previous request to reach a deal within a 10-day timeframe, Trump combines his threats of military action against Iran’s energy sector with an ongoing pursuit of diplomatic solutions to alleviate the existing tensions.
Despite Trump’s acknowledgment of an extension granted at Iran’s urging, Tehran firmly rejected the US conditions, labeling them as “one-sided and unfair.” This rejection underscores the rising confrontation in the Gulf, as the US strives to keep international shipping lanes secure while balancing diplomatic initiatives.
