Donald Trump said the ongoing war involving Iran could end soon, but warned that the United States may intensify its military response if Iran attempts to disrupt global oil supplies. Speaking to Republican lawmakers in Doral, Florida, the U.S. president described the military operation as a “short-term excursion” aimed at weakening Iran’s military capabilities.
Trump claimed the U.S. and its allies had already inflicted heavy damage on Iranian military infrastructure, including missile and drone facilities. He said the campaign was progressing faster than expected and suggested that American forces were close to achieving their objectives of limiting Iran’s ability to launch ballistic missiles and threaten regional stability.
At the same time, Trump acknowledged that the United States had not yet fully achieved its final goals in the conflict. He said the operation would continue until Iran could no longer pose a major threat to the U.S., Israel or other regional partners. According to the president, thousands of targets linked to Iran’s military infrastructure have already been struck during the campaign.
Trump also hinted that the situation could escalate if Iran interferes with global energy supplies, particularly in the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly one-fifth of the world’s oil passes. Any disruption in the area could trigger stronger military action from Washington, he warned.
The president also commented on Iran’s new leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, saying he was disappointed with the selection and suggesting the appointment might prolong tensions between Tehran and the West. Meanwhile, Iranian officials have pushed back against Trump’s remarks, insisting that Tehran—not Washington—will determine when the conflict ends.
Despite Trump’s suggestion that the war could conclude soon, analysts warn that continued missile strikes and regional tensions mean the conflict may still pose a significant risk to global security and energy markets.
