Mob Violence in Bangladesh Claims Life of Hindu Man Over Blasphemy Allegations

Mob Violence in Bangladesh Claims Life of Hindu Man Over Blasphemy Allegations

Post by : Maya Rahman

A deeply disturbing event unfolded in Bangladesh on Thursday, marked by the brutal killing of a Hindu individual amidst claims of blasphemy. The occurrence took place in Bhaluka within the Mymensingh district, as reported by local law enforcement.

The deceased, identified as Dipu Chandra Das, worked at a nearby garment factory and resided in Dubalia Para as a tenant. Eyewitness accounts suggest that a mob attacked him around 9 PM, accusing him of making derogatory comments regarding Prophet Muhammad. Yet, those questioned by police struggled to pinpoint the exact time or nature of the alleged remarks.

Authorities indicate that the mob mercilessly beat the man to death, subsequently binding his body to a tree and setting it ablaze. The incident unfolded on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, leading to traffic disturbances for several hours as large crowds gathered.

A video purportedly depicting the incident circulated on social media, showing bystanders filming with their phones. Police have yet to authenticate this footage. Responding to reports of the crime, police swiftly arrived at the scene to manage the chaos.

The body has been transported to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for an autopsy. No formal charges have been filed at this time, but authorities are striving to connect with the victim's family. Officials confirmed that legal proceedings will commence once a case is formally registered.
