Vietnam President and General Secretary To Lam delivered a major keynote speech at the 11th National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front held at the National Convention Center in Hanoi. The Congress officially opened on May 12 and brought together senior leaders, government officials, delegates, intellectuals, religious representatives and overseas Vietnamese communities to discuss the country’s future direction for the 2026–2031 term.
During his address, To Lam stressed that national unity remains the strongest foundation for Vietnam’s development and stability. He said the country is entering a new stage of growth and modernization following the successful conclusion of the 14th National Congress of the Communist Party. According to him, Vietnam must now focus on prosperity, innovation, democracy and stronger public participation while ensuring that the people remain at the center of all reforms and policies.
The Vietnamese leader emphasized that the Vietnam Fatherland Front must continue serving as a bridge between the government and the people. He called for major reforms in the organization’s working methods, including better social supervision, stronger public dialogue and more effective use of digital platforms to hear citizens’ concerns. To Lam also highlighted the importance of improving transparency, protecting public interests and increasing accountability within state institutions.
The speech focused heavily on the importance of social unity during a time of rapid economic and technological change. To Lam noted that Vietnamese society is evolving quickly with growing urbanization, new industries and changing social structures. He said traditional methods of public mobilization are no longer enough and urged the Front to modernize its outreach through practical programs, direct engagement and technology-driven communication systems.
To Lam also praised recent efforts by the Fatherland Front and social organizations in supporting poor communities, disaster victims and vulnerable groups across the country. He highlighted achievements such as helping eliminate temporary housing, supporting flood victims and organizing welfare campaigns aimed at improving the lives of millions of people. According to him, these efforts reflect Vietnam’s traditions of solidarity, compassion and collective responsibility.
The President further warned that the organization must honestly address its weaknesses, including bureaucratic practices, ineffective supervision and limited digital transformation. He urged officials to remain close to the people and avoid relying only on paperwork and reports. Instead, he said leaders must actively listen to citizens, respond quickly to concerns and strengthen trust between the public and the government.
The Congress is expected to finalize major resolutions and strategic plans for the Vietnam Fatherland Front over the next five years. Leaders hope the event will strengthen national unity, improve governance and support Vietnam’s long-term goals of sustainable development, economic growth and international integration by 2045.
